Fished this afternoon in the good ole 90 degree weather, gotta love it. I wasn't expecting much but it turned out to be a good afternoon of fishing. We ended up with a nice catch of Speckled Trout, Grey Trout, Flounder, and a few little Croaker. All of the fish today were a nice class of fish, all keepers.

7-1-09

Here it is July, the weather is getting hot and the fishing is getting hotter. The Trout bite is coming and going but the Flounder are on fire. They are chomping at the bit to be caught. They have arrived in groves with catches in the 40s and 50s. Along with them are a few nice Drum being caught here and there. If your lucky enough to be here on vacation or heading this way let's go fishing and enjoy the bite while it is on fire.

Had a morning trip today with Ron and Steven outta of Va. and Texas. The weather was the usual, little windy but not to bad. We made a few stops here and there, the fishing was kinda slow but steady. We had a super high tide which is never good for Backwater fishing. I don't think any of counted but I believe we had 3 or 4 Flounder, 2 Stripers, Bluefish and 15 or so Trout. The Trout were small with only about 8 or so that may have kept, didn't matter as they all went back in. I had great time fishing with you guys.

6-20-09

This morning I a had the chance to fish with Steve and his son Luke. All I can say is that Luke's grandpa has showed him a few tricks or two as he went on to catch everything that got in his way. I guess you could consider it and In-Shore Sound Slam for him today. First thing in the morning he caught a nice Red Drum to start things off and then reeled in a handful off nice Speckled Trout. The fishing was a little slow today but he was persistent and it paid off. He then went on to catch a few Blue fish, Striper, Flounder and a few more Trout. All of the fish he caught today were returned to the shallow waters to fight another day. I had blast with them today and look forward to fishing with you guys again.

Had and A.M. trip today with fellow North Carolinian Keith. The weather was wonderful, almost scary it was so smooth out there. The fish were chomping and the rods were bending. Once again the fish were nice sized, 18" to 21". The bite was off and on but when it was on it was going off. On the way back in to the dock we stopped at spot I haven't fished for awhile and ended up catching 5 or 6 more that were bigger than the first school. All in all it was a great day to be on the water and fishing. Thanks Keith and will see ya next time.

10-11-09

I fished with Mr. Greene today and we smoked them. We left the docks at 5 am and had smooth sailing all the way to the hole. There was a really nice class of fish hanging around willing to chew. We fished the Trout hole for a few hours and then moved on to uncharted territory. The gamble paid off big time. It was hard leaving the Specks biting but well worth it. We found a huge school of Stripers going off, you would hook one and have 15-20 come to the boat with him, it was cool. As well as catching the Stripers there were a few flounders thrown in the mix as well. I didn't have the camera today so I'm afraid there are no pics.

6-9-09 P.M.

This afternoon I had the opportunity to take Bill,Bob,Marsha, and Kim out fishing for a while. The afternoon started off with some nice weather but that all changed before we made it back to the docks. The wind kicked up and a little rain here and there but that didn't stop us. The fishing was still hit and miss. We would catch 2 or 3 fish and have to move to catch 2 or 3 more but it was well worth it. We were catching a very nice class of Speckled Trout this afternoon as well. I wasn't surprised due to the fish we caught on the morning trip. I think we caught 20 or so Trout this afternoon along with a Flounder. We had to leave early due to the storm that rolled in on us. Sorry guys for getting you a little damp. Had fun, see ya next time.

6-9-09 A.M.

Had the pleasure to fish with Glenn, Glenn Jr., George, and Josh this morning. For the fist time this year it seems, we had good weather with a very light wind. We headed to one of the many Trout holes that are out there right now and went to work. The bite was a little off today, it was feast or famine for us. We ended up with 20 plus fish today up to 20 inches. The fish had some nice size to them this morning, anything under 16 inches went back in the water for another day. The only thing that threw us for a loop was some guy wondering around the woods while we fished, not sure what was going on there. I guess he was lost.

6-7-09

Everyday is a different day that is for sure. We were on the water by 5am and ran to one hole, nothing. After that we ran to another and caught a few blues. Had enough of that hole so we headed to another spot and Bam! We were in the meat, we had 35 Specks within 30 minutes. The fish were on fire, catching them 2 at a time at times up to 20". To go along with the trout we a few Spanish Mackerel and some Stripers. I guess I will try again tomorrow for something else new.

6-6-09

Went out today searching once again. The day wasn't to bad, windy as usual but manageable. We were able to find a few new spots to hit with the right wind. I think overall we had 10 or so fish up to 20".

6-1-09

What a way to start of the month of June, Trout after Trout. We had a good day on the water with exception of the wind blowing NE 20-25. That made for a very wet ride crossing the sound but it was worth it for us. Today was a first for us as we didn't catch any Stripers to join the rest of the collection. Overall it was a good day for us and looking forward to the next.

5-31-09

I was on the water this morning at 5:15 in a hurry to go nowhere. Tim and I have been putting alot of time on the water lately looking for good concentrations of fish in water that isn't fished by everybody else. The morning was beautiful, little windy as usual. We only fished for a few hours this morning so we could spend the day with the families. Today was slow but we still managed a few nice stripers and nice specks.

5-30-09

Went out early this morning looking for the trout and finally found the mother load. They were biting just about every cast. The fish ranged anywhere from a 1lb. up to 4lbs.. Along with the trout we were catching stripers two at a time and a few flounder as well at a different location. If anyone is looking for some good light tackle, rod bending action give me a call.

5-29-09

Went out today looking around trying to find something new to fish. It was windy as can be but went anyways. We found some nice schoolie stripers biting 2 at a time here and there and a few flounder as well. The fishing is really heating up here at OBX along with the weather. So if you want to go fishing give me call.

The fishing is starting to pick up at a good pace finally. There has been good numbers of Trout and Flounder being caught all around the islands. I have had family in town this week and had the opportunity to take my nephews fishing. Jackson who is four got to catch his first fish and also did it on his own. By the end of the day he was casting and catching by himself. He ended up with 13 croaker and a nice 1 lb. spot. Nothing better than watch kids catch fish and just smile from ear to ear the rest of the day.

I got up this morning and took Andrew out to a little hole that likes to produce for me and it paid off as well. We ended up with 2 flounder, 5 stripers and 6 trout within an hour and a half. It was great to have them down for a few days.

I fished today with Lee, Aaron and Thomas today. What a group of guys to fish with. It was a little windy out this morning but the 80 degree weather made you forget about the that. We headed south this morning to a little hole or two that I like too hit when it is windy out. The fishing was slow for us today but we still managed some Flounder and Drum for the day. Here is a pic of Thomas and his drum he caught today.
I have been fishing the last three days, actually looking for fish. Yesterday we had 9 stripers a flounder and a trout. The fishing is slowly picking up for us down here. Another week or so and things should be getting good. All of the summer fish are starting to show up and starting to bite for us as well. Thats all for today folks...

4-28-09

Had a great day on the water today. The weather was beautiful and the company was even better. I fished with Russ and Marie on a half-day morning trip. We made one stop for some drum and nothing, so we made a big move and it paid of for us. We had to fish hard today, the tide was going out very slow and then we slack for the rest of the trip. It ended up being a good day though, we had 5 stripers and 2 drum for the day. We lost 4 0r 5 more on top of that. I'm not sure what Russ hooked into but it had different plans than we did as it swam off into the shallow muddy water. I think today was a first for me as I left my camera sitting in the truck. I'm looking forward to seeing the pics Marie took for us today though. Thanks guys, had a great time.

4-20-09

I just got back from a trip to Fl., thought I could bring some of the nice weather back with me, it didn't work. I did a little fishing while I was down there but mother nature had different ideas for me. I did get by D.O.A. headquarters while I was down there to load up on supplies for the summer. They are some great people over there and if you ever get the chance to use their products I highly recommend it. Not only do they catch fish, they stand up to more than just one. After a tour of their facilities I found myself trying to figure out how I was going to get it all home with me. Needless to say I got it here.
I went out yesterday looking around and ended up catching 7 stripers up to 22", 2 puppy drum and 1 flounder. The fishing should only get better from here on out. If the weather would just stay steady and quit going from highs to lows we will be in good shape.

4-5-09

Had a trip on Thursday, didn't turn out to well. We fished for 5 hours without a bite. Had a great time with you guys even though the fish were hard headed.

Had two trips today, the first one started out with a Big bite fast, he ran and ran and keep on running. Will got him within 10' of the boat and but the fish had other ideas. I will say he was the largest one I have seen this year being a good 33" to 35". After that the tide went slack and so did the bites. Had a great time listening to Laura and Ann's gossip. I just hope my grammar and spelling is correct on this report.
On the afternoon trip I had Walt, Roger and Miguel which was cool being they were Grandpa, Uncle and Grandson. We had a great time even though Miguel put it on us older people. Once the tide started to move the fish started biting a little better for us. Miguel showed us how a jig catches drum and then he showed us how cut bait rigs catch drum. He ended up with two fish
17 1/2" and one over 28". I want to thank everybody for a great day on the water and a special thanks to the two little ones for fishing so hard.

3-31-09

What a way to end March. Went out today along with Troy on a scouting trip. We didn't find a large variety but what we did get was a nice drum bite. We ended up with 10 nice drum up to 28 inches. There was a good handful more that never made it to the boat as well which is no big deal pending they all went back in the water so they can grow up to be big little boys. The weather is still iffy, 50 or so and 15NE wind, I could handle nicer weather but oh well. Overall it turned out to be a nice day out there. Hope to see everyone soon.

3-25-09

Went out this morning for an hour or so, 47 degrees and wind blowing about 20 ENE. I got chilly out there quick. The drum bite has been going on for a week or so and still going. They are schooled up but getting them to bite is a task in itself. The biggest we caught today was a nice
27 1/2"er, lots of fun to catch pending they are shacked up in 8" of water, they just run. I didn't have the camera today of course, I got a nice pic on the phone but have no clue how to post it. The weather doesn't look like it is going to clear up till next week so I will post as soon as I get out again. Hope everyone is ready for summer, I know I am.

3-10-09

What's going on people? Not much here, waiting on the weather to shape up so we can do some fishing. The water in the sound is hovering around 50 degrees and is hasn't changed much in the past weeks. As far as fishing goes, I have heard of nothing going onthat is close. There is a small amount of Perch jerking going on in the rivers and some good Tile fishing going on in the Ocean along with a few Tuna. I'll let you guys now what's going on when I here something good... The boat is in the shop right now getting some yearly maintaince done on it along with a few new GOODIES for this season, let's just say the anchor will stay in the locker most of the time.

2-26-09

Not much going on at The OBX. The boat is sitting the garage with the cover on it. The wind has been blowing for I don't even know how long, seems like forever. The sound temp. is around 48-50 degrees, the weather report for the next 10 days don't look to hot either. I saw some snow mixed in there as well. The striper are out there, but the wind won't allow us to get there. I'll update this when ever something good comes up down here. have a good day. Summertime is coming and so are the fish. So pack up the kids and lets go!!!

1-30-09

I finally got up north today, the fishing wasn't to hot but it sure beat what we have going on here. We put the boat in the water at 7 and had 4 fish in the boat by 10 after, not bad. It slowed after that so we mosied around exploring and looking for drop offs to fish next time around. I guess with the temp being 30 when we launched and still able to catch fish, you could call it a good day of fishing. Tim and myself ended up with a few trout up to 2lbs and 10 or so puppy drum up to 20", not to bad, just not the 8lb. trout we set out for. I'll try them again next week. Talk to ya then.

1-23-09

Went out today with a friend, capt. Ray to kill some time and burn some gas. Got a late start, but oh'well. It was calm on the way out, I guessed we rolled 40 miles or so and found some birds working and some great marks. All of that said, getting the fish to bite was a different story. We got lucky and got into some in the 25lb range which was cool. We trolled for awhile and ended hooking them on the jig. I was using one of my bass rods with braid to catch mine, lot of fun.

1-20-09

Hey everybody out there, it is snowing again here on the Outerbanks. We actually got an inch or two today along with a lot of wind. The Rockfish are still hit or miss, catch them one day and not the next. I am ready for the spring time and warm weather myself. I'm still trying to get up north to catch some trout, maybe this week. I'll update the site again next week, now I'm going out to build a snowman.

1-12-09

I hope everyone had a good New Year and is looking forward to an even better 2009. The fishing here is hit or miss, if you travel 45-60 miles it is usually a hit, anything less is usually a miss. There have been some really nice fish caught in the Nags Head are, that only lasted a day or two. I am trying to get some things tied up here around the house so I can head north to catch some monster Speckled Trout. Hopefully that is how it will turn out, I will defiantly let you guys and girls know.

12-27-08

Today was definitely a day to remember for all kinds of reasons. I met Capt. Ray at his house around 6:15 and headed to the docks, we left from there, all was good and then the fog set in. It was supposed to burn off early according to the weatherman. We headed North, which turned out to be a long, slow journey but well worth it. We had a small clearing around KDh but that was it, the bait is everywhere, the birds are diving and the fish are right along with them. We couldn't stay on them due to the fog, you could see roughly 15-20 yards around you, if you were lucky. We would listen for the birds and head that direction and catch a few fish and move on. We ended up catching 18 or so Rocks, which was good for the conditions. This is were the fun starts. We had a 50 mile run back, not bad, but due to the fog it took 4 hours to get to the trailer. The ride back wasn't bad, the inlet was a different story. Just our luck, the GPS decided to lose our trail and anyone who travels that path through the inlet knows it changes daily. We just missed the convoy that gathered to go through it, so we waited and went through with Rock Solid. I want to thank Aaron Kelly for his patience while waiting on us so we could find him. I'm not joking when I say it was foggy, by this point you could cast further than you could see. We finally made it under the bridge. We worked our way through the crack, very slowly, made the turn and BAM, wind blew us up on the bar. With no luck getting off, it was time to join the Polar Bear Club. Not bad...water was 45, the air was in the 5o's. We got the boat off the bar after 10 minutes or so and BAM, right back on it. So strip down again to rejoin the club for a second time. We got the boat off the bar again, by this time I was numb. We crossed the channel next to Aaron, when the Coast Guard went past us on a search and rescue. There was one boat with a broken GPS out at the bar. We and Rock Solid had looked earlier for the lost boat, but to no avail. That's when we called in the big guns.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

We want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year...

Thanks for a great year of fishing and fun, I got to met alot of great and interesting people this year that always made for great trips. The fishing is coming and going right now. As long as you don't mind a making a good run you can catch some fish. Hey, whats 30 or 40 miles when it comes to fishing, no big deal for what you get in return. Thanks again for a great year and looking forward to seeing you all again next year.

12-6-08

Fishing has been hit and miss down here for the past few weeks. The stripers will bite one day and take the rest of the week off, just enough to get everybody out there to burn gas. The cold fronts seem to be bringing them in slowly, so that is a good thing. We were supposed to get a good blow today, but it looks like it forgot to show up? Weathermen, gotta love them, get to tell lies and get paid well for doing it. LOL
I will let you guys know when they show up in full force, remember when looking at marina reports, they have 20 boats going out and you only see two pictures of fish, do the math, not that great of fishing like they make it look. I have a Striper tournament next week in Va. Beach, I'll let ya know how we do then. Have a good week.
Here is a picture of things to come, hopefully real soon....

11-21-08

Today is a beautiful 34 degrees and snowing like crazy. Not much stuck to the ground, but it was nice seeing it. We can use all we can get if we want the rock to show up in full force this season. I went out yesterday for a few hours, the water was 46 in the sound, and the fish had lock jaw. I didn't fish a whole lot, I wanted to run the boat and get the dust off of it. I spoke with a few other captains that fished all day with no luck. I did see that one boat caught 6 nice rockfish off the bar on ells. I'm sure that place will be a zoo for the next few days. I hope everybody has a nice Thanksgiving and enjoy the time off work.

11-1-08

The fishing has been really hot up and down the beaches for the last week or so. The puppy drum and trout bite have been on fire. I have been out a time or two and done well on both days, catching trout and puppy drum. The drum have been up to 35" and trout up to 5-6lb range.

I went off-shore sat. with Capt. Ray, we had a good day catching yellowfin tuna and a limit of tile fish to go along with them. Sat, was supposed to be a beautiful day, which it was kinda, besides the wind that showed up. At one point I counted 76 boats out there trying there luck on the tuna. I saw alot of guys jigging them up from over 700', tiring, but alot of fun. I will be putting up reports weekly if there is anything to report.

The biggest catch ever !!!

This is the biggest catch of all time for me, she weighed 7.1 and was 20.5" long. I don't think it was a world record but it was for me. This is little Makenna Robin Kerns.

10-10-08

Fished again today with Troy, we were on the water by 6:30 (Dark) and it was worth it. The day was non-stop fish but the ones we caught were well worth it. We had 10 or so Trout all around 2 lbs., Drum, and some nice Flounder to top it off. The Flounder went 3.6lbs. and 2.9lbs, which are pretty nice for this area. Once the rain started coming down harder and harder we decided to call it a day.

10-9-08

Fished this afternoon out back. Started of real slow and boring, but ended up being a decent afternoon. We ended up catching striper, flounder, drum, and trout. Needless to say I lost the biggest trout I have hooked this year, he had some size to him, thought it was drum at first, I was wrong. Anyways I will be back out there 6:30 tomorrow morning.

10-8-08

I went fun fishing today with my buddy Troy, we put alot of miles on the boat today. It ended up being a really good day on the water with about 30 or so trout up to 3 lbs., striper, blues, and drum for the day. We covered alot water just exploring and looking for new holes. Had a good day and look foward to the next time.

10-4-08

Today was a perfect day to be on the water, cool temps and light wind. Here is Jim with one the speckled trout we caught along with greys and flounder. The fishing was little slow, but the day made up for it. Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend, I know I did.

9-26-08

No report to post today. I have been out of town fishing here and there. It has been windy here for the last 2 weeks. I am heading out Monday to see what's going on out there, I'm sure the water will be very muddy and grassy but Oh'well, beats working. The downtime has given plenty of time to get ready for the little one, who knows, it could be here any day now. I'll keep you posted.

9-5-08

I have fished the last couple days for fun, kinda stinks everyone is back to work or school, the fishing is hot. The trout have been unbelievable to go along with the flounder and drum fishing. In the last few days I have caught trout, drum, flounder and stripers. The reports will be slowing down due to few charters this time of year. I will be posting them as I go out or hear of something good. Looks like I will be able to fish in the front yard before long, the rain is here from Hana Montana and is coming down. Try to stay dry.

9-1-08

WINDY, WINDY, WINDY, that sums up today !!! That didn't stop the crew I had today, Casey, Steve, Jeff, Jr., and Pops were at the ramp early and ready to fish. We made our way to the grounds, not with out adventure, we got talking about duck hunting and kinda took a detour first that was a little sandy, once we got out of that we started catching the trout. The wind was blowing 15-20 NNE all day, so that made it interesting. We had 35 or so keeper trout today along with a few nice blues here and there. Some how we managed to catch a little Gag Grouper as well, something different, that is for sure. I sure am glad Steve and Casey were there today, they kinda showed us how to catch them. Thanks guys, had a great time and look forward to next time.

Florida Fishing

Here are a few more pics from my Florida trip. I wasn't able to get them all on one blog. I forgot to mention that other than the Tarpon the other 94 or so fish were caught on one drift.

Florida Tarpon Fishing

Here a few pics from last month while I was down in Florida visiting family. While I was there my dad, nephew and myself made a few trips to the Indian River, which is a few miles from his house and is an absolute fish haven. While I was there met up with a rep from DOA Lures and he gave us the baits we needed and the direction we needed to head to catch fish. We caught well over a hundred fish one morning including Tarpon, Lookdown's, Pompano's, Ladyfish, Snapper, Specks(up to 5 1/2 lbs), and a few more I have never heard of. All fish were caught on plastics and topwater besides the Tarpon. We had a blast, we were using med. action trout rods with 15lb. braid with 30lb. fluorocarbon litre. Anyone heading that way let me know and I can set you up with one of the best there is down there.

8-26-08

Had an Awesome morning on the water today with B-Rad and Austin. He told B-rad sounded a lot cooler than Brad!! We had perfect conditions today, slick calm with a ripple here and there. We had our limit within the first hour and continued catching them on after. I pulled out a top water plug and they were killing it until one decided that he wanted it more than we did. They (the fish) were hitting the plug clear out of the water and kept coming back for it. We were catching two at a time every other cast for at least 45 minutes to an hour. After all of that fun B-RAD wanted to catch a flounder so we moved on to try and find him one, and one is what we found. He caught one that went around 17 inches, I'm sure he will be frying that one up for din din. Today was an absolute perfect day for fishing down here and we don't see that everyday. We threw jigs and jerk baits all day to catch what we did and man was it a blast.

8-22-08

Had great day on the water today with Birthday boy Brent, along with his mom, dad and brother. Once again the wind was howling but that didn't stop them from wearing out the trout. Nobody counted today but we were surely in the 40's by the end of the trip. Had a lot of double up action today with fish up to 2 1/2 lbs. That is always a good fight. Along with the trout we caught Bluefish up to 2lbs. Had a great time today with the Funkhousers and look forward to next time.

8-21-08

Had a great day on the water today with Scott, Christian and Justin. There was a lot of smack being talked by the boys, but they backed it up. We were throwing some new DOA lures that I picked up down in Florida and man can they catch fish. We ended up with 25 or so Specks up to 2 1/2 lbs today with a few double ups as well. Along with the trout we caught a few blues up to 2 lbs as well. We left there and went on to catch a few more fish along with a nice little drum to finish the day out.

8-20-08

Had the pleasure to fish with Frank and James today. They had never caught a Speckled trout before so we went looking. They picked the right day for it, it was on fire. We caught a quick 12 fish for the table and threw the rest back. We caught well over 30 trout up to 3lbs today and that was leaving them biting to go flounder fishing. We caught some flounder, no keepers though. We only spent about 30 minutes doing that and then went looking for some drum, saw a few, but had no luck catching them. All in all it was a great day fishing, little windy but they were chomping. We could have easily caught 60 or so trout.

8-18-08 Trout fishing

Went out today looking for new places to fish with a buddy of mine, didn't do to bad. We found one spot that we were catching trout every other cast, short lived though. Had a good time and am ready for more.

Kingfish Tourney

I fished a Kingfish tourney this weekend with some friends down in Sneads Ferry, N.C., Didn't win anything but here is a pic of one of the fish we caught. It was 16lbs., only about 30 some short of winning. I think we finished around 35 or so out of 160. Had fun, that is all that matters.

August 14th

Went fun fishing this afternoon for an hour or so with some friends that were in town and my neighbor Mr. Jack. Started slow but picked up quickly as we found a school of small puppy drum wondering around. Ended up with a few drum and nice trout. This trips main goal was to allow the little ones to go on a boat ride, which they loved and catch a few fish . Anytime you can take a kid fishing jump on the opportunity.

August 12

Had the pleasure to fish with Keith and his sons today, they wanted something that would tug, so we went out looking for more donkeys. We hooked 12 and got 4 or 5 to the boat. They were laying on the bottom and by time you got hooked up the line was frayed pretty good.
